This example shows you how to create a Facebook like Autosuggestion using jQuery, Ajax and PHP. It's simple and clean just you have to change the database details.
This is a very simple lightweight, unobtrusive plugin that adds styling and behaviour to your search form fields. All you need to make SearchField work is a simple form field and 2 lines of code.
The AutoSuggest class adds a popdown menu of suggested values to a text field. The user can either click directly on a suggestion to enter it into the field, or navigate the list using the up and down arrow keys, selecting a value using the tab key. The values for the suggestion list are to provided as XML (by a PHP script, or similar).
It works by caching all the results from a JSON Request and feeding them to the autocompleter object. When a item is added as a box, it's removed from the feed array, and when the box is disposed it's added back, so that it becomes available in the list when the user types.
The general idea was that I would allow the user to select a filter column from a drop down list. Then as they key in characters into the adjacent textbox I would use the AjaxControlToolkit's AutoComplete extender to suggest some values to filter by.
